1878 Huntley & Palmers Sports Baseball PSA 4
THE PIECE & ITS STORY
I'm not a huge vintage guy and for me vintage is always going to be anything before 1975. I just didn't have much of a connection to the players (although I certainly respect their accomplishments); it's just not worth the cost of high quality vintage from a fan POV. From a business POV, I wish I had bought more vintage.
When I started getting some extra cash from exiting a certain digital platform, I decided I was going to get at least one vintage card. For some reason this one popped up during my initial search and I thought it would be cool to have something from the 19th Century.
The eye appeal of this one is off the charts, in my opinion. All the defect are just as you want them: edge issues but nothing too crazy, discolorations that underline the age of the card. The baseball scene looks fantastic and all the text is legible.
And the thing is almost 150 years old. How cool is that?
The value appreciation on this one has been slow but steady. Current value is a little over double what I paid, so not a bad potential return so far. And I always love to drop this one when some physical collector tries to assume I don't understand cards during the inevitable digital vs. physical collectible debates.
